πΈ 5 FREE Shawl Patterns to Prepare for Springtime
I have a confession to make, and honestly I'm a little embarrassed admit it.
When I put together these pattern round ups, I often pull from sources that give an affiliate commission when you purchase their pattern.
The result of that is I sometimes include patterns that are fine but not the best, in hopes that I might make an extra couple dollars.
I also don't include a lot of patterns I might otherwise because there's no financial incentive. That's just not right.
So first let me apologize.
My goal with the Yarnist is to provide you with useful resources that help you become a more fearless knitter.
While it is my full time job to write this newsletter, I'm not doing my job when I prioritize affiliate commissions over your best interests.
There are tons of great patterns out there that I could be promoting, and at times I haven't done that for the wrong reasons.
I'm sorry and starting today I'm going to change that.
From now on I will only be choosing projects because they're genuinely great, not because they give a commission.
I may still include patterns from our affiliate partners from time to time, but ONLY if they are really great projects and I will label when there is an affiliate link.
As a way to make things up to you, all of the projects in today's round-up are FREE!
Our favorite FREE shawl projects for springtime
These projects are ones I either found personally interesting or were VERY popular already.
But just because something is popular doesn't mean you've heard about it before.
So here are a few FREE shawls you might enjoy knitting up.

Reyna by Noora Backlund
This pattern was specifically designed to help use up a single skein of sock yarn. It has no gauge and can easily be modified for different yardage amounts.
It also has 15,000+ projects on Ravelry!
|
Diffusion Shawl by Tetiana Otruta
This asymmetrical shawl plays with both color and texture. It does all kinds of interesting things as it's knit sideways using garter stitch and simple lace.

Stormy Sky Shawl by Ksenia Naidyon
Another asymmetrical shawl meant to use up a skein of fingering weight yarn. This time knit from the corner using an easy to memorize lace pattern.
|
Half + Half Triangles Wrap by Whitney Van Nes
It's not often that you find a square shaped shawl, but this simple design from Purl Soho combines color blocking and garter stitch to great effect.

Wild Swan by Anne-Lise Maigaard & Nim Teasdale
Honestly I have no clue why this shawl pattern is available for free. It's complex lace patterns could easily be charged for. But lucky for you it's available to everyone to enjoy!

BONUS PICK!
Traveling Woman by L Abinante
When I got started knitting it seemed everyone was making this shawl. It's quick to knit and has a lot of symbolism from the designer. And that lace section looks incredible!

Daily Stitch
Granite Stitch
We're finishing up our exploration of decreases this week with a stitch that uses them to create texture.
This stitch has a row of just K2Tog, followed by a row of KFB, which create a knot like texture across.
It's simple but effective and pretty easy to knit.

Pattern Pick
Stripe Triangle Shawl by Teresa Chorzepa
Well the name is a little on the nose, but this is a super fun looking project.
As you can tell we're big fans of garter stitch shawls, and this one is no exception.
The stripes come to life with a slow color change yarn like Lion Brand Mandala, which makes all those color changes easy peasy.
Best of all it's 100% FREE!
