🌎 World Wide Knit In Public Day

This Saturday, June 10th, is World Wide Knit in Public Day.

It's celebrated every year on the second Saturday in June.

Started in 2005 by Danielle Landes, her vision was intended to get knitters out of their homes and connected in the real world.

She encouraged people to organize small get togethers in parks, cafes, and local yarn stores all around the world.

That first year there were 25 local events.

Today there are well over 1,000 in more than 50 countries including The United Arab Emirates, Lithuania, and South Africa.

It is the biggest knitter run event in the world!

Why Knit in Public?

Knitting is often a solitary activity.

Most people do it at home, alone, watching reruns of NCIS.

But there are A LOT of knitters around the world, and many more who could be inspired to start.

Knitting in public helps to de-stigmatize the craft as "only for old ladies" and helps connect knitters in your area.

Attending a WWKIPD event can help you make new friends as well as offer a change of pace.

How do you join?

The WWKIPD website has a list of events being held all over the world.

If there isn't one in your area you can volunteer to host one next year!

But you can also go to a local coffee shop, park, or library and just start knitting.

You will almost certainly get people inquiring about what you're doing.

And you can tell them that you're a Fearless Knitter. 😉

📆 Daily Stitch

Wrap and Turn Short Row

The wrap and turn short row is used to shape your work without using decreases or increases.

It is achieved by stopping in the middle of the row, turning your work, and knitting the other direction.

By wrapping the last stitch before you turn, you can keep from a small hole forming when knitting back over the stitch.

This technique is used in the Sidewinder Hat featured below!

🧶 Pattern Pick

Sidewinder Chunk Hat by Johnny Vasquez

I designed this version of my popular Sidewinder hat to be knit up in about 2 hours.

It's knit flat using only garter stitch and short rows.

Pairing it with a bulky yarn makes it a great project for Knit in Public Day.

And right now you can Pay What You Can (or get it for free).

The Pour Over Newsletter

Not Conservative. Not Liberal. Just Christian.

Trust in media is at an all-time low (shocking… we know) but why don't we keep “walking around completely uninformed” as a backup plan.

The Pour Over provides concise, politically neutral, and entertaining summaries of the world’s biggest news paired with reminders to stay focused on eternity.
